“Rape in the Fields”
FRONTLINE and Univision partner to tell the story of the hidden price many migrant women working in America’s fields and packing plants pay to stay employed and provide for their families. This investigation is the result of a yearlong reporting effort by veteran FRONTLINE correspondent Lowell Bergman, the Investigative Reporting Program at UC Berkeley, and the Center for Investigative Reporting.
It is the first time a news program has aired on two national networks in two different languages; the film appeared in English on PBS Frontline, and the Spanish version “Violacion de un Sueño” aired on Univision.
IMPACT:
California enacted a bill to protect female farmworkers from sexual abuse in direct response to Rape in the Fields — FRONTLINE’s collaborative investigation with The Center for Investigative Reporting, the Investigative Reporting Program at the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism, Univision and KQED-FM.
AWARDS & HONORS:
"Rape in the Fields" was awarded the 2014 duPont-Columbia Award's Silver Baton and Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award and was a finalist for the Goldsmith Prize.
