Whitney Pennington is a second year student studying documentary production. She was formerly an education, youth and family beat reporter for Oakland North, a news website covering North Oakland. Whitney was born and raised in New Jersey. Before coming to Berkeley, she was a producer for the Emmy Award-winning public affairs series, One-on-One with Steve Adubato and project director for Stand & Deliver, a communication and leadership program for urban youth. Whitney was a Teach for America corps member and taught fourth grade in Newark, New Jersey. As a journalist, she is most interested in bringing attention to issues relative to youth, women and people of color. Whitney holds a bachelors degree in journalism and media studies from Rutgers University.
