Tanay Gokhale

Alumni

Tanay came to the journalism school at Berkeley to study video journalism after a brief dalliance with social science research and a couple of years’ experience as a travel writer for National Geographic Traveller India.

He aspires to use his skills and experiences as a social science researcher, travel writer and documentary film-maker to produce short documentaries about stories that lie at the intersection of his interests.

He is especially passionate about environmental and cultural reporting and thoroughly enjoys getting sucked into rabbit holes while researching random bits of trivia for a story.

At the J-school, he has produced, shot or edited stories about church choirs in Oakland, mushroom foraging in the Bay area, traditional artisans in rural India and the spread of conspiracy theories on the internet.

Other ongoing projects include improving his fingerstyle guitar skills, getting better at jumping rope, being funnier and becoming a more articulate writer.
