Simmerdeep Kaur

Class of 2024

Simmer stepped into the world of journalism as an undergraduate when she was working as a reporter for her university’s editorial team. After serving as the General Secretary of a non-profit and interning with several media outlets in North India, she is now building on her previous work at Berkeley Journalism.

But after coming to Berkeley, she was also determined to reinvent herself and go beyond writing! In the past two years she has acquired data skills by learning python, R and tools for visualizations, to be a strong supplemental tool for her enterprise stories.

Through it all, she has produced stories covering a wide variety of topics like ‘Psychedelic Assisted Therapy’, ‘COVID-19 Ambush on Mental Health’, ‘Exiled Journalists’, ‘Understanding and Managing OCD’, ‘The Despicable Reality of Marital Rape in India’, and ‘Impact of Image Generative AI on Artists,’ to name a few.
