Rosa Furneaux

Rosa is a writer and photojournalist from Norfolk, England. She currently works as an editorial fellow at Mother Jones, and freelance photographer with the San Francisco Chronicle. Her work has also appeared in The Guardian, Pacific Standard Magazine, and Broadly, among other publications.

Her reporting interests cover human rights, health, climate and gender issues. With a focus on international journalism, Rosa has previously reported in East Africa, including assignments in Tanzania and Malawi. Her master’s thesis project, a long-form narrative feature, explored the connection between climate change and gender-based violence in northern Kenya.

She completed her Masters in Journalism at the University of California, Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism. Supported by a Dean’s Merit Fellowship, Hafner Travel Fellowship and Hugh Fulton Byas Memorial Scholarship, she studied photojournalism and narrative writing. In 2018, she received the university’s Dorothea Lange Fellowship to continue a photographic project documenting the lives of adolescent sex workers in northern Kenya.
