I was born and raised in Oakland, California, but attended BUSD schools throughout my primary education. During my time at Berkeley High School, I wrote for the school newspaper, and thus launched my journalism career. While studying print and online journalism at SF State, I worked as a consulting producer for The Alliance for Media Arts and Culture, and as a staff assistant for Pop-Up Magazine Productions. After graduating with a bachelor’s of arts in journalism, and minor in English Literature, I started working as a full-time production for Peter Nicks’ latest documentary and third film in a trilogy about Oakland’s public systems, HOMEROOM. I played an integral role in producing this film, from pre-production, production, and post-production. I was tasked with everything from scouting interesting scenes to shoot, to building relationship with students at Oakland High School, and much more. Working on such an amazing feature film was a catalyst for my passion for documentary filmmaking.

During my time as a graduate student at the J-School, I hope to refine by photojournalism and documentary filmmaking skills. My primary focus will be on serving the communities that have once served me, and bringing their stories to the forefront. My area of focus will be on environmental justice and healthcare inequities among marginalized communities and genders. I’m most excited to report in the cities that I call home.
