Mary Newman
Originally from the Adirondack mountains in Upstate New York, I have been working as a freelance photojournalist in New York City for the past five years. I earned a B.F.A. in Photography and the Digital Image in 2011 from the Fashion Institute of Technology, and have spent most of my career pairing environmental portraiture with written profiles.
I am interested in mixing different journalistic mediums to create layered stories. Travelling to different communities to document their way of life, or a personal story of one individual is what I enjoy doing most. The foundation of my work is based in photography, but I am hoping to expand my skills and develop my multimedia storytelling abilities.
