Kelsey Oliver

Kelsey Oliver covers health, homelessness, and local politics in the Bay Area. Before starting a joint master’s program at U.C. Berkeley Graduate Schools of Journalism and Public Health, Kelsey worked in international development with the U.S. Agency of International Development (USAID) and its partners in Washington, D.C., Mali, and Uganda.
Kelsey picked up video and writing skills while living overseas. She reported on maternal & child health, the NGO sector, inclusivity in foreign aid, and community health workers. Her freelance work has appeared in Berkeleyside, Oakland North, The Frisc, and Salt Lake Underground Magazine. Kelsey was a recipient of the prestigious James Alan Cox Award for video journalism work. She also attended a European Union press visit for journalism students in Brussels. Kelsey received a Clinton Global Initiative Student Action Fund to combat COVID-19 in Mali and made the Athletic Dean’s List while competing as a Division I NCAA athlete during her undergraduate studies.
