Jennifer Redfearn is an Academy Award–nominated and Emmy-nominated director known for work the press describes as visually striking and deeply human. Her independent films have aired on HBO, Independent Lens, and PBS World, earning honors including an Oscar nomination (Sun Come Up), an Emmy nomination (Apart), and the Full Frame Charles E. Guggenheim Award (Touch the Light).

She has produced stories and collaborated with teams across North, South, and Central America and the Middle East, with additional credits on projects for National Geographic, PBS/NOVA, Bill Moyers Journal, CNN, and Discovery. She served as Field Director and Consulting Producer on Landfill Harmonic, which won the SXSW Audience Award, aired on HBO, and is now streaming on Amazon. Her background also includes producing and editing at MediaStorm, as well as producing and supervising dozens of short documentary films.

Redfearn’s work has been featured in The New York Times, Variety, NPR, and The Los Angeles Times. A Guggenheim Fellow and Philomathia Prize winner, she leads the Documentary Program at U.C. Berkeley’s Graduate School of Journalism.

She is evolving the program to foster radical creativity and collaboration—and building partnerships to expand the reach and impact of bold, independent storytelling. Recent student work includes a Student Academy Award winner, premieres at Sundance and Telluride, and publications in The New Yorker, POV, and The Los Angeles Times.
