Supported by a Dean’s Merit Fellowship and the Rubén Salazar Scholarship from the National Association of Hispanic Journalists, Jennifer Cortez is a master’s candidate at UC Berkeley’s Graduate School of Journalism.

She is also a fellow at the University of British Columbia’s Global Reporting Program, where she is working alongside international fellows to report on primary education.

She was most recently a reporting intern at Mission Local, a hyperlocal news site in San Francisco’s Mission District. Her work has also previously screened at Ojai Film Festival and Santa Barbara International Film Festival.

Prior to grad school, she was a high school English and journalism teacher in the Coachella Valley, where she was recognized as Teacher of the Year at her school site.
