Andrew Lopez

Class of 2023

Andrew Lopez is currently enrolled at UC Berkeley’s Graduate School of Journalism and is working towards earning a Master of Journalism degree.

He comes from a background in community radio, independent music and is currently an educator in San Francisco.  His passion for public radio was sparked in his childhood growing up in East Los Angeles and his hometown, Whittier, CA. He conferred two A.A. degrees during his time at Pasadena City College and moved to the Bay Area in 2014.

After graduating from San Francisco State University in 2016, he hosted and produced a community radio show, worked at an independent record label, began teaching in San Francisco classrooms and spent too much money on film cameras and vinyl box sets.

Since joining the J-School, his work has been published on The Oaklandside and Oakland North, where he covered culture and community in Oakland. He has also reported and mixed episodes for North Gate Radio.
