Alexander Nieves

Alex Nieves is a second-year graduate student studying New Media. He’s also a reporter for POLITICO California Pro covering cannabis regulations and assisting with production of the California Playbook newsletter.

Alex started his career as a sports reporter for Occidental College’s award-winning student newspaper, the Occidental Weekly. He would eventually become the editor-in-chief of the Weekly, leading the paper to an Online Pacemaker award. He has since worked for Sports Illustrated, NBC Nightly News, Southern California News Group, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, and the Santa Clarita Valley Signal. He spent last summer working as an editorial intern with POLITICO in Washington D.C.

Alex is passionate about reporting on the environment and politics. He hopes to cover the intersection of these topics as an investigative reporter.
