From Kashmir to California

June 13, 2012

Rafiq’s story, published in the Christian Science Monitor, details Rafiq’s pursuit of an Indian Army Official who was wanted for the killings of a number of Kashmiri activists. The official, Avtar Singh, had issued a restraining order against Rafiq when Rafiq tried to interview Singh. The plot thickens when, two months later, Singh calls the Selma, CA police department to inform them that he had just murdered his family, and shortly afterward takes his own life.

Rafiq crafts an intriguing narrative about Singh’s alledged crimes, his departure to the United States, and why he wasn’t deported or extradited back to India while in U.S. custody. Read Rafiq’s full story here.
