Dean Ed Wasserman offers condolences to Medill community for James Foley’s death

August 20, 2014

Dear Brad,

As I know you realize, the loss of James Foley is something all of us in the field of journalism feel keenly. But there’s a special horror when this young man of exceptional courage and promise is also one of your very own, somebody who was carrying forth with distinction the sense of mission and professionalism you helped inspire in him at Medill.

On behalf of all the faculty, staff, students and alums of UC Berkeley’s Graduate School of Journalism, please accept our heartfelt condolences.

And please know that we speak of him with the deepest respect, and seek to honor his example in the dedication we too bring to the cause of public illumination that he died serving.

Warmest regards,

Ed
