J219 MINI: Advanced Video Editing lab

Advanced Editing is a 6-week advanced editing course. Through viewings, readings, discussion, and hands-on exercises, students will advance their understanding of video editing aesthetics and process. We’ll cover primary styles of editing, including traditional verite, montage, and evidentiary editing. Students will learn practical how-tos, including organizing transcripts, creating visual reels, index-carding, and cutting to music. Adobe Premiere will be the core application for this course. We will focus on project organization for longer edits and helpful features, including markers, Essential Sound panel, and proxy creation. Students will learn about best practices in the editing room, collaboration with directors, and career opportunities.
