Second-year student Juan Martinez wins NAHJ scholarship

October 21, 2014

The J-School is excited to announce that second-year student Juan Martinez is this year’s recipient of the NAHJ Geraldo Rivera Scholarship. Martinez, an Oakland native, is studying multimedia reporting at the J-School. He’s passionate about sports reporting and recently interned with Comcast SportsNet Bay Area.

“I am so fortunate to be living my dream,” Martinez said. “By winning this award, I will continue to have the opportunity to attend the university I always hoped I would.”

The scholarship honors Hispanic students pursuing careers in television broadcast journalism. Through its scholarship program, the NAHJ is working to provide opportunities to Latinos, who are under-represented in U.S. newsrooms.
