Scroll down on The Washington Post’s main video page and you’ll see a new series of reports about China and Chinese immigrants in the Bay Area by members of the 2012 Digital TV and the World class. Christy Khoshaba ’13 produced one story about a realtor and another about a martial artist, Paulina Hartono profiled a restaurant worker and Lu Chen followed a metal sculptor. The series includes a team report on the Chinese New Year parade narrated by Christopher Connelly ’12 with video from Connelly, Hartono, Khoshaba, Christina Lopez ’12, and Ted Trautman ’12.
The series also includes another team video produced in Kunming, southwest China, by reporters Chris Connelly, Paulina Hartono, Christy Khoshaba and Ted Trautman. They took a day off from a 30-day reporting practicum organized by The Center for Digital TV and the World to fan out across Kunming and learn about ordinary people’s impressions of America.
The Post website has published Digital TV and the World domestic and international stories since 2002.
Separately, The New York Times has begun rolling out a series of multimedia DigiTV stories from China. Christy Khoshaba 13′ published a video about the national college entrance exam. She also contributed reporting from Kunming for a companion print piece about the exam by correspondent Edward Wong. Paulina Hartono’s story on a public interest lawyer was published to accompany a story on Wong on political changes in China.
The 2013 Digital TV and the World training, led by instructors Todd Carrel and Christopher Beaver, will start in the spring semester with reporting on Burmese in America. It will be followed by a practicum for a few select students and professional journalists now being planned in Myanmar. The practicum will be conducted by the non-profit Center for Digital TV and the World, a project of the Tides Center.
