Ali Winston on OPD Violence

Winston wrote Deadly Secrets: How California Law has Shielded Oakland Police Violence, a story about the Oakland Police Department’s well-publicized history of violence and the laws and policies keeping officers involved in these conflicts from being prosecuted.

Winston worked with UC Berkeley’s Investigative Reporting Program to write the story, a product of his ’10 thesis.
