Mahlia Posey is a first year graduate student at UC Berkeley’s Journalism School. Born and raised in Las Vegas, NV, she traveled to the other side of the country to study English and Film at Howard University. During her undergraduate career, she was able to gain experience in broadcast journalism by interning with the historic WHUT. She took a year off to serve as an AmeriCorp member to the University of Nevada, Las Vegas Upward Bound program in order to inspire kids to reach higher. She also worked in broadcast television at the same time. After working under the leadership of Michelle Mortensen at KLASTV, she realized the importance of how great storytelling can make you an advocate for the community. Putting her focus back on her journalism career, she hopes to one day create compelling stories that change the narrative of minorities in mainstream media.
