Jean-Philippe “J.P.” Dobrin is a documentary filmmaker and photographer based in the San Francisco Bay Area, California. He specializes in human interest stories and has photographed for non-profit, advertising and editorial outlets for almost a decade. His work has been the published by the New York Times, San Francisco Weekly, Time Magazine, and the International Rescue Committee. He has worked in India, Eastern Europe, the Middle East, South East Asia and around the United States to capture visuals of everyday life.

He became passionate for documentary work while completing his BFA in photography at the Academy of Art San Francisco. Shortly thereafter he worked as a freelance photojournalist for magazines while pursuing personal documentary stories. J.P. believes the camera is his passport into underexposed nooks of society- from the bedside of an aging New Yorker struggling with Alzheimer’s to the mustard greens field of a farmer in India, being on the pulse of life is what motivates his work. J.P.’s empathetic approach has allowed him to step into sensitive situations, allowing him to make lasting connections with his subjects and create intimate and personal work. he’s currently based in oakland, in the san francisco bay area, california.
