July 17, 2013

Asst. Professor Richard “Koci” Hernandez was nominated for a national Emmy Award this week for his piece titled, Our Mobile Society: Photographers Embrace Instagram. It was published by CNN.

The feature was nominated in the category Outstanding Graphic Design & Art Direction. The awards will be presented on Tuesday, October 1 in New York City.

Koci Hernandez was also named a 2013 Hellman Fellow. He will receive a research grant from the fund to support and develop transmedia content for his documentary the “The Cannon and the Flower.” The fund was created by a generous gift from Mr. F. Warren Hellman, a distinguished alumnus and friend of Cal. The awards are given to assistant professors who have shown evidence of their promise for distinction in research.

A new monograph of Koci’s pioneering mobile phone photography was recently published worldwide. Designed by Pierre Le Govic, with Tritone separations by Geert Heirbaut and printed in Belgium, it can be seen here: http://outofthephone.com/en/catalog/
