 MJ Johnson is a video journalist and writer who was born and raised in Japan. She received her B.A. in Journalism from San Francisco State University in 2020. She has worked as a local reporter in the Bay Area for the San Francisco Examiner and KQED News. She recently spent the summer reporting on The Oregonian’s visual team and is a graduate student at UC Berkeley’s Graduate School of Journalism. 

Her interest in journalism comes from a desire to absorb and understand media through a multicultural lens, leading her to cover stories on race justice, identity and the complex history of California’s diverse communities.
