Lucas Guilkey is a reporter and video journalist based in Oakland, California. His work focuses on many of the social and political stories of our time  — from mass incarceration to climate change, budget cuts to reproductive healthcare. He is currently reporting for Oakland North and has produced for Splinter, Fusion, AJ+, KTVU, and independent outlets. He is also producing a feature documentary about the largest prisoner hunger strikes in U.S. history, which took place in California in 2011 and 2013. He is a master’s candidate at the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism and a graduate of Wesleyan University and the International Honors Program’s “Rethinking Globalization: Nature, Culture, Justice.”
