Kate Maxwell
Kate B. Maxwell is a journalist and the founder of the News Go Bag Project, which provides tools and resources for local journalists and news outlets covering disasters and emergencies. Previously, Kate co-founded The Mendocino Voice, a nationally recognized independent local online news outlet providing community-centered news for Mendocino County, California. She served as publisher from 2016-2024. Kate’s reporting focuses on the intersection of climate, health, the environment, labor, and rural issues, as well as government and police accountability. Her work in journalism has focused on public information access, community engagement, and building more equitable and sustainable news ecosystems. Kate has received several journalism fellowships including an Innovation Fellowship at Reynolds Journalism Institute and a JSK Community Impact Fellowship at Stanford.
