I earned my Masters in Journalism from UC Berkeley after graduating cum laude with a B.A. in English & American Literature from UC San Diego. I worked as a newspaper reporter and editor for 10 years before turning to freelance writing. My stories have run in publications ranging from the Charlotte (NC) Business Journal to California Monthly. In recent years, I’ve focused on music criticism and features, and contributed to national magazines — most recently defunct or headed that way — Paste, Harp, iPod Monthly and Blurt. I also write for a host of alternative weeklies, and on-line sites Allmusic.com, Popmatters.com and Blurt-online.com. I am currently Editor in Chief of Shuffle magazine, a quarterly dedicated to the music scene in the Carolinas (look us up on www.issuu.com; our website is under construction…a lot). I also teach Pop Culture & the American Music Scene at UNC Charlotte, and two courses through a local community college’s Continuing Education program: Freelance Journalism and Entertainment Writing. If I went to school with you and don’t owe you money, give me a shout out…
