Jay Caspian Kang is a staff writer at the New Yorker and a Pulitzer finalist in commentary. Prior to the New Yorker, Kang was an opinion writer at the New York Times and a staff writer at the New York Times Magazine. Between 2010 and 2014, Kang was a founding editor at the sports and culture site Grantland. He has also written for the New York Review of Books, Harper’s, and many other publications.

Kang was also an Emmy nominated correspondent and producer for Vice News Tonight on HBO where he covered protests around the world. He is the director of American Son, a feature length documentary about Michael Chang that aired as part of ESPN’s 30 for 30 series.

Kang is also the author of two books. The Dead Do Not Improve, a mystery novel set in San Francisco and The Loneliest Americans, a history of Asians in America. He is the co-host of Time To Say Goodbye, a podcast about politics, and his audio work has appeared on This American Life.
