Jasmine Ascencio
I’m a passionate journalist focused on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), currently pursuing my graduate studies in audio reporting at UC Berkeley’s School of Journalism. I hold a BA in Journalism from California State University-Sacramento, where I also minored in Communication Studies and Chicanx/Latinx Studies.
As a DEI Editor and Reporter for The State Hornet, I created our first DEI style guide, conducted diversity audits, and produced award-winning social justice stories recognized by the Associated Collegiate Press.
With certifications in social media marketing and Hootsuite, I leverage my communication and organizational skills to tell impactful stories that amplify underrepresented voices. I’m always eager to learn, collaborate, and adapt, believing that journalism is a powerful tool for social change.
