Andres Larios

Class of 2026

My name is Andres Jimenez Larios. I am the son of Mexican immigrants and I am proud that my mom put in so much energy to make sure my brother and I learned Spanish and take pride of our culture and education. My father taught me the importance of working hard and persevering even when the road gets tough, even if you feel alone. I am thankful for their support and when I went to UC Berkeley for undergrad, I realized how people like my parents worked so hard for my brother and I, but were still unaware of the systemic challenges they faced in our communities. When I finished my senior honors thesis for political science, I flew to the Inland Empire to visit my family. I saw all southern California’s warehouses and vast freeways and thought about conducting research focusing on that. However, when I thought about who the intended audience would be, I realized the people most affected by the issues in these working-class communities were not academics who could analyze and debate a scholarly paper. My parents, and so many others like them, deserved to have knowledge that has traditionally been circulated among academics. I want to be able to create engaging multimedia packages about complex issues around the world and give the public the power to come to their own conclusions.
