Amy Ferraris
Amy Ferraris is a documentary film editor and producer whose work is distinguished by its humor, compassion, and unexpected depth. She edited and co-produced the Sundance Film Festival favorite Try Harder!, which also aired on PBS’ Independent Lens. Try Harder! follows five seniors at San Francisco’s iconic, high-achieving Lowell High School through the emotional roller coaster ride of the college admissions process. Other notable editing credits include Seeking Asian Female and The Grace Lee Project, both of which premiered at South by Southwest. Her most recent role was editor and producer of Counted Out, a feature documentary that reveals the crucial role math plays in determining who holds social and economic power. Counted Out premiered at the San Francisco International Film Festival in 2024. Ms. Ferraris’ work has enjoyed great success on the festival circuit, including at Tribeca, True/False, Full Frame, LAFF, and SilverDocs, where it won “Best of Fest.”
Ms. Ferraris also has significant experience as an editor of long-form serial nonfiction for broadcast. Her work has covered everything from vintage cars to bizarre animal behavior to prison life to competitive karaoke. Her work has appeared on PBS, the Discovery Networks, NatGeo, the Sundance Channel, and A&E, among many others. She is also the producer/director of The Perfect Cappuccino, a feature documentary about coffee, consumerism, and being American. The Perfect Cappuccino was supported by a Fulbright Scholarship and was among the earliest documentaries to stream on Netflix.
Ms. Ferraris holds a Master’s of Fine Arts degree in Film Production from UCLA, as well as a bachelor’s degree in Comparative Literature from Stanford University. She holds a part-time appointment to teach introductory filmmaking to undergrads at Santa Clara University.
