In an exclusive report initiated by the Investigative Reporting Program’s Director Lowell Bergman and Senior Reporter Matt Isaacs, new evidence has been uncovered showing that casino tycoon Sheldon Adelson, the largest donor to Republican campaigns in 2012, may have violated the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act in his efforts to develop casinos and other properties in Macau.
The story broke on ProPublica and PBS “Frontline” websites (both news organizations collaborated with the IRP on the year-long investigation) and was snapped up by over 60 major news outlets across the nation.
This article, in which Bergman and Isaacs shared a byline with ProPublica editor Stephen Engleberg, is part of an ongoing IRP series on US companies doing business in China. Two previous articles appeared on Reuters, ‘High Rollers, Triads and a Las Vegas Giant” in Oct. 2009 and “The Macau Connection” in March 2011.
