Wonders Are Many Film Workshop with Jon Else

Graduate School of Journalism Professor Jon Else will do a workshop and case study on his new documentary feature film, “Wonders Are Many: The Making Of Doctor Atomic” this coming Monday evening in the Library, 7 PM – 8:30.

He will go over rushes, versions of sequences, treatment, legal issues, rights and licensing issues, structure problems, sound design, cinematography in Hi Def 16mm and 35mm, editing, budget, distribution, graphic design, and the gnarly problem of attempting three narratives simultaneously; all the fun stuff. Without HD projection equipment, we cannot really show the whole film, but Jon will bring a number of clips on VHS and DVD.

The film focuses on composer John Adams and director Peter Sellars as they create an opera about the first atomic bomb.

If you would like to see the full film, “Wonders Are Many” will have its West Coast Premier at the San Francisco International Film Festival on Saturday April 28th, 9 PM at the Castro Theater.

“Doctor Atomic” director Peter Sellars and Jon Else will be there for a discussion and Q&A after the film.

Pacific Film Archives, Berkeley Monday April 30, 9:10 PM
Kabuki, San Francisco, Thursday May 3, 6:30 PM
