Tom Engelhardt: Editor, Publisher, and Blogger

Come for a brown-bag lunch session with Tom and Orville. Learn from one of the new media’s best exemplars of how one outraged person can publish original news and opinion on the web—and find that through viral replication in various papers and news sites, he and the writers he commissions are reaching hundreds of thousands of readers.

Tom runs Tomdispatch.com under the auspices of The Nation Institute. He co-founded the American Empire Project book series: www.americanempireproject.com

He was a longtime book editor at Pantheon, and is the author of several booksincluding, most recently, Mission Unaccomplished: Tomdispatch Interviews with American Iconoclasts and Dissenters (Nation Books), the first collection of Tomdispatch interviews.

In addition to all this he is a lecturer in the Editing Workshops program at the J school, where his course, “Strong Words,” regularly supplies essays for an annual issue of The San Francisco Chronicle’s Insight” section.

About Engelhardt’s e-mailed coverage of the war in Iraq and the foibles of the current administration, the late Susan Sontag once said: ” I wake up with Tom Engelhardt in the morning and I go to bed with him at night.”

This is hard-hitting journalism and strong opinion about the world’s most serious subjects—told in lively and passionate language. For a sample, go to: “Thelma and Louise Imperialism: Over the Cliff with George and Dick?”
