The biennial event, which launched in 2017, is provided under an endowment at the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism that established a permanent professorship in photojournalism and funds exhibits in the School’s Gallery. About the Logan Book Symposium
The Reva and David Logan Book Symposium brings together photographers, academics, students and collectors to celebrate the published photograph. The biennial event, which launched in 2017, is provided under an endowment at the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism that established a permanent professorship in photojournalism and funds exhibits in the J-School’s Gallery. The first Logan Professor is award-winning documentary photographer and the Reva and David Logan Professor of Photojournalism Ken Light.
The events complement the Logan Photo Book Collection at the Bancroft Library at UC Berkeley, which brought the late David Logan’s exceptional collection of photography books to the campus.
About the Journalism School’s Center for Photography
The Center for Photography at the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism, founded in 1996, teaches photojournalism and social documentary photography. The Center routinely exhibits world-class photographers in the halls of the Journalism School, and its public events have brought distinguished photojournalists such as Marc Riboud and Sebastião Salgado to Berkeley. It has published four books with University of California Press, and the School has self-published eight student titles. Its annual magazine “realeyes,” showcasing the work of student photographers, recently marked its 14th anniversary.
How to Support the Next Generation of Photojournalists
In 2015, the J-School’s Center for Photography joined with photographer Jim Marshall’s estate to launch the JimMarshall Fellowships in Photography. Our goal is to raise $500,000 to $1,000,000 in funds dedicated to supporting the visual arts at the School. We’re depending on people like you to reach this ambitious goal in tax-deductible donations both large and small, including in the form of planned gifts. Donate online today at: http://givetocal.berkeley.edu/jimmarshallfellowships.
