Senior Military Officers Discussion

Please join us for an off-the-record discussion with the 2007 Hoover Institution National Security Fellows, including active duty officers from the Marine Corps, Army, Air Force, and the Department of State. This event is for current J-School students, faculty, and staff only. Moderated by Jon Else

Colonel David F. Aumuller, U. S. Marine Corps. Upon graduation from the U.S. Naval Academy, he was designated an Air Command and Control Officer, and has served in multiple operational assignments in Marine Aircraft Wings, and as an Exchange Officer with the Royal Air Force. He participated in Operations Desert Shield, Desert Storm, and Iraqi Freedom, including combat operations in Fallujah. He earned a Masters Degree from the Marine Corps University, focusing on the research and development of automated command and control systems during the 1960s. Immediately after the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, Colonel Aumuller served as a lead planner for detainee operations and the initial offensive operations for Operation Enduring Freedom

Lieutenant Colonel Chris Gibson, U. S. Army, most recently served with the 82nd Airborne Division, where he commanded the 2nd Battalion, 325th Airborne, an assignment that included two tours to Iraq in support of all three national elections there to date. Earlier in his career, Chris fought in the Persian Gulf War, served in the NATO peace enforcement operation to Kosovo, taught American Politics at West Point, and served two liaison tours with the US Congress. He holds several graduate degrees from Cornell University, including a PhD in government.

Lieutenant Colonel Scott F. Murray, graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy in International Relations. He is a career intelligence officer and served most recently as Commander, Pacific Air Forces, Action Group, then as the Commander of the 26th Air & Space Intelligence Squadron, both at Hickam Air Force Base, Hawaii. He is a distinguished graduate of the USAF Fighter Weapons School, and USAF Air War College. He received a M.A. in Ethics & Policy Studies from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. His thesis at the School of Advanced Air and Space Studies was entitled entitled “The Moral and Ethical Implications of Precision-guided Munitions.” He was honored by the National Military Intelligence Association for his work during Operation Allied Force—the air war over Serbia

Mr. Jason Davis, U. S. State Department served as principal officer at the U.S. Consulate General in Dubai, U.A.E., a growing and dynamic post with over 100 employees from seven U.S. government departments and agencies. Mr. Davis has served in political sections at U.S. Embassies in Tel Aviv, Cairo, and Beirut, and was Political Section Chief at the U.S. Consulate General in Jerusalem. In addition to his overseas assignments, he served as staff assistant in the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs in Washington DC, and then as political/military officer in the Office of Egyptian and North African Affairs. He also spent a year in the Sinai Peninsula, where he was a civilian observer with the Multinational Force and Observers. His foreign languages are Arabic, Hebrew and Farsi.
