THIS EVENT IS NOW SOLD OUT (JULY 2007). East Meets West brings together editors from top general-interest magazines and veteran journalists for an intimate, all-day conference at the Graduate School of Journalism at the University of California, Berkeley. The editors will share tips, insights, and insider information on their publications. Writers will learn the editors’ views on what makes great long-form narrative journalism, hear about the types of pitches they seek, and have the opportunity to meet one-on-one with an editor.
East Meets West 2007 Editors
John Bennet, The New Yorker
Jeanne Carstensen, Salon
Sheila Glaser, The New York Times Magazine
Terry Monmaney, Smithsonian
Ben Schwarz, The Atlantic Monthly
Robert Capps, Wired
In addition to all-day forums and panels, a 15-minute session with one editor will be available to the first 36 registrants. These will be arranged on a first-come, first-served basis. They are not pitch sessions, but rather an opportunity for writers to discuss their work with a top national magazine editor.
Those who are already registered have been sent an email notifying them that Martin Smith from West (The Los Angeles Times) will not be joining us and Robert Capps of Wired has
agreed to participate instead. Early registrants can change their one-on-one editor selections before July 2, 2007 at 4 p.m. PST by visiting
http://www.asja.org/emw/edsupdate00.php.
(Don’t worry, the original first-come-first-served sequence will still be honored. If you registered fifth during the original registration, you’ll still be fifth in line after you change your editor preferences. If you’re happy with your current choices, and want us to simply swap Robert Capps where Martin Smith appears in your line-up, you don’t have to do anything.)
THIS EVENT IS NOW SOLD OUT (JULY 2007). Note that registration for this event opens to the general public on July 1, 2007. More at www.eastmeetswestsymposium.com.
