John Prendergast is one of the world’s leading experts on Sudan, and will discuss the crisis in Darfur — solving the immediate humanitarian crisis in Sudan as well as developing long-term strategies for establishing peace.

Prendergast has focused most of his twenty-year career on conflict resolution in Africa and shaping U.S. foreign policy towards the region. He worked for the Clinton administration from 1996-2001. He was Director of African Affairs for the National Security Council from 1996-1999 and served as Special Advisor to the Department of State from 1999-2001. He has worked for a variety of NGOs and think tanks in Africa and the U.S. In addition to peace-making, John has also focused on human rights promotion and humanitarian action. He has authored or co-authored seven books on Africa.
