Crude World: Writing Global Narratives That Keep Readers Awake at Night

Peter Maass, a New York Times Magazine writer, will discuss the reporting behind his new book, Crude World: The Violent Twilight of Oil.  Maass, whose research took him to Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Kuwait, Russia, Nigeria, Equatorial Guinea, Ecuador and Venezuela, will talk about his methods for creating narratives that enliven global issues.  He will also discuss the ways today’s journalists can produce better and deeper foreign reportage than previous generations of journalists.
