Carl Hulse is Chief Washington Correspondent of The New York Times and managing editor of First Draft, a daily political newsletter. He is the author of On Washington, a regular and widely read New York Times column chronicling developments in the nation’s capital from the perspective of a longtime expert in politics and policy. Carl was previously Washington Editor for The Times, directing all facets of Washington coverage of the White House and executive branch, Congress, the courts and the Pentagon from 2011 to 2014. He is a graduate of Illinois State University.

Paul Kane has covered Congress since 2000, when he started at Roll Call with a beat focused on the Senate leadership agenda. He started with The Washington Post in 2007, covering everything from the congressional response to the 2008 financial crisis to the Obama-Republican fiscal wars. Paul now writes a regular column on Congress and its interactions with the Trump administration for the Post.

Maureen Orth is an award-winning journalist, a Special Correspondent for Vanity Fair and author of two books. Her best selling, Vulgar Favors: The Assassination of Gianni Versace is the basis for Season Two of American Crime Story on FX. She is a former Peace Corps Volunteer and the founder of the Marina Orth Foundation that provides technology, English and leadership training in 21 public and charter schools in Colombia. She is a member of the UC Berkeley Foundation’s Board of Trustees and the College of Letters & Science Board of Advisors, served on the Executive Board of the College of Letters & Science (2000-2006) and has funded travel fellowships at the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism. Maureen is a proud alumna of UC Berkeley.

Jake Sherman is a senior writer for POLITICO and co-author of POLITICO’s Playbook, the most indispensable morning newsletter for the biggest influencers in politics. Before landing at POLITICO, Jake worked in the Washington bureaus of The Wall Street Journal, Newsweek and the Minneapolis Star Tribune. Jake is a graduate of The George Washington University and Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism.

Lynn Sweet is the Washington Bureau Chief for the Chicago Sun-Times. She appears frequently on CNN as an analyst. Sweet led a study group on presidential politics while a fellow at Harvard University’s Institute of Politics. Sweet graduated from UC Berkeley and has a master’s from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism. She also attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Sweet is in Northwestern University’s Medill Hall of Achievement and received an Alumni Leadership Award from the Institute of Governmental Studies at Berkeley.
