COMMITMENT TO QUALITY: PETER JENNINGS LEGACY TO TELEVISION NEWS

When Peter Jennings died of lung cancer in 2005 the country lost a journalist dedicated to international reporting and compelling documentary programs.

The paperback release of Peter Jennings:A Reporter’s Life in November brings Kayce Freed Jennings and Lynn Sherr to the Journalism school. As co-editors of the book and longtime ABC-TV broadcast journalists Kayce and Lynn will talk not only about the Jennings legacy, but also about the current state of network news and the challenges of producing well-reported non-fiction television for the networks.

Lynn Sherr, a groundbreaking ABC TV News correspondent and author, has covered a wide range of award winning stories throughout the world, specializing in women’s issues and social change, as well as investigative reports and national politics. Her most recent book is “Outside the Box: A Memoir” published in 2006.

Kayce Freed Jennings, Peter’s wife, is co-founder and executive vice-president of The Documentary Group a New York based Production Company dedicated to keeping his mission alive. TDG programs have won the prestigious Peabody Award two years running, been nominated for an Oscar and several Emmys. Their most recent production, Babyland tells the poignant – and shocking – story of infant mortality in Memphis, TN.

Peter Jennings: A Reporter’s Life will be available at the event.
