Chinese Voices: Reports from San Francisco and Guangzhou

This is a preview screening of “Chinese Voices,” 12 short video vignettes — intimate reports about the lives of ordinary people in San Francisco and Guangzhou, China. Tales of hardships and happiness from fresh perspectives. Community reporting at home and abroad.

Please join us for a showing of stories from America to China — about a mechanic, a new immigrant, a father of teenagers, AIDS patients, injured workers, a fashion editor and more — followed by question and answer session with reporters Brian Aguilar, Laurie Burkitt, Mason Cohn, Cynthia Dizikes, Susa Lim and Jason Witmer.

Digital TV and the World is taught by veteran China correspondent Todd Carrel, with special mentors Christopher Beaver and Pierre Kattar and technical advisor Milt Wallace.

Digital TV and the World is a multimedia, multi-platform initiative to create new styles of global reporting. Students use small digital cameras and laptop computers to shoot and edit their stories from communities around the world. Many of their reports are published on washingtonpost.com

The Center for Digital TV and the World is supported by gifts from The Skirball Foundation, Sony, Apple, and the Walter and Elise Haas Fund. Additional support for China coverage was provided by gifts from UC Berkeley’s Center for Chinese Studies, Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures, Institute of East Asian Studies, Office of Resources for International and Area Studies, and the Graduate School of Journalism.
