A FREE one-day business journalism workshop will be held in Berkeley, Calif., on Friday, September 26, 2008. This workshop is open not only to business journalists, but to journalists covering other beats who wish to learn more about covering business.
The “Business Journalism Boot Camp (including Multimedia)” program covers the basics of using numbers in understanding financials, deciphering government filings and better business writing. Multimedia storytelling is the focus of the afternoon, including an exercise in effective online reporting.
This workshop is sponsored by the Donald W. Reynolds National Centerfor Business Journalism and hosted by The University of California, Berkeley, Graduate School of Journalism.
Presenters are Michelle Leder, a freelance financial journalist and founder of Footnoted.org; Curt Hazlett, who held business editing positions at The Washington Post, The Chicago Sun-Times and The Portland (Maine) Press Herald and was a Reuters reporter; and Anita Malik, managing Web editor of BusinessJournalism.org.
“More than 7,000 journalists nationwide have attended Reynolds Center workshops and understanding basic financial concepts and writing with style are skills that belong in every journalist’s portfolio,” said Andrew Leckey, director of the Reynolds Center.
