Beyond Organic: The Story of Polyface Farm

Joel Salatin is one of the most innovative, successful and influential farmers working in America today. His Polyface Farm, in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, grows grass-fed beef, chickens, rabbits, pigs, turkeys and eggs in a complex rotational system based on intensively-managed pastures and the symbiotic relationship between species. The farm generates all its own fertility and, with the exception of chicken feed and a few mineral supplements, is entirely self-sufficient. Salatin, a third generation alternative farmer, is the author of “Holy Cows and Hog Heaven.” His farm has been featured in Smithsonian, Gourmet, and ABC World News Tonight.
