NABJ and NAHJ UC Berkeley Chapters Present Afro-Latinx Voices

The Berkeley Journalism National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) and National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ) chapters warmly invite you to Afro-Latinx Voices, a panel discussion event to learn more about the Afro-Latinx diaspora, anti-Black racism within the Latinx community and the lack of Afro-Latinos in the newsroom and the
media in general.

Food and refreshments will be provided. The event will also be live-streamed via YouTube.

PANELISTS

Dr. Bárbara Abadía-Rexach, a professor of Latina/o Studies at San Francisco State University, whose research interests include Afro-Latinxs, Music & Race in Puerto Rico, and the Black Hispanic Caribbean & African Diaspora.

 

 

 

Djali Brown-Cepeda, award winning filmmaker and founder of Nuevayorkinos, a visual archive documenting New York City’s Latino culture and history through family photos and stories.

 

 

 

Felice León, an award-winning video producer and host. She’s also a 2022 Nieman Journalism Fellow at Harvard University. Prior to becoming a Nieman Fellow, she was a video producer at prominent Black news site, The Root.

 

 

 

Dr. Solsiree del Moral, historian of modern Latin America and the Caribbean and professor of American studies and Black studies at Amherst College.
