J601 Extra Research Units

Students may take up to four J601 research units without permission. These units count toward any extracurricular research activities students engage in during the semester, and can bring a student up to the required 12-unit limit needed to be a full-time student. Taking more that four units requires approval from the head graduate advisor, Ed Wasserman.

Note that J601 units don’t count toward the 36-unit total unit degree requirement, which isn’t an issue for most students.

This is not a class, nor does it have any meeting times or require any type of check-in. It’s meant specifically for extracurricular research work.
