J298 Tech as a Business and Cultural Story

This is a 15-week course that will explore technology as both a business and cultural story. We will delve into how the tech industry works and the history of its rise in Silicon Valley. But the meat of the course will be to look into the rise of A.I. and its effects on social and racial justice. Sessions may include discussion of reading assignments, hearing from guest speakers and students interviewing reporters/authors of work. Students will work in teams to produce an interview-format podcast that will air on KALX. We will cover how to conduct interviews for long form narrative-driven interviews. Students can work with instructors in other classes they are taking simultaneously to explore the possibility of double-dipping. This class is open to all second-year students but students on the audio track are encouraged to enroll.
