J298 Reporting on Race in the Journalism Industry

Shereen Marisol Meraji will share her successes and failures reporting on the topics of race and identity at a legacy news institution and invite guest lecturers from the journalism world and academia to share best practices when covering race for a national audience. The course will involve discussion and critique of current and past journalism about race in the United States. While this is not a production class, students will develop a treatment for a story and interview journalists who are covering the beat.
