J296 Data Journalism (online)

This course will be taught online only through Zoom. Please ensure you have arranged a quiet space to attend this course remotely each week. There are limited spaces at North Gate that may work on a temporary basis.  But students should make arrangements in their schedule to ensure they have a place they can attend this course remotely on a consistent basis.

The course will introduce reporters to the practice of data journalism in a busy newsroom, showcasing the importance of telling a story and how tools can help you do it. Data – large sets of information and numbers – are increasingly available from public, private and social media sources. As a result, journalism organizations are looking to make use of this rich pool of information – and to hire those who are able to do so.
