J219 MINI: Undocumented America (Five weeks: Oct. 5-Nov. 9)

There are close to 12 million undocumented immigrants in the United States, comprising what amounts to a country within a country. Their presence impacts every aspect of our society from labor and the economy to health care, culture and politics. Despite their large numbers, representation in mainstream English media of undocumented immigrants is limited. The purpose of this course is to educate students on the main issues affecting this community, and give them experience reporting in this isolated and underserved population.
