J100 Foundations of News Gathering (Undergraduate)

This is the undergraduate equivalent to J200. This is a semester-long survey of journalistic principles and practices, and study of the methods of gathering, writing, and editing news. Students will learn how to work as news reporters, reporting and covering stories in the field for academic credit. The main focus will be on writing news stories and the craft of journalistic research. Additional components may include subject matter expertise, research methods, interview skills, and learning to be a skeptical discerning news reporter adhering to high ethical standards of news coverage.
