Note: this course is offered both in the fall and spring semesters. The fall version (10 weeks) is geared toward documentary students and the spring version (15 weeks) is geared toward multimedia students. The curriculum will differ and be more specifically catered to those respective tracks. Non-doc/multimedia tracks may still request to enroll and will be allowed only as space allows.
This course is designed to introduce students to basic methods and practices in animation currently used by media organizations in documentary and news video. Each class will consist of a short demonstration, viewing of related works and hands-on experimentation. Students will be provided with an overview of practical techniques ranging from kinetic typography and animated maps to motion tracking and templates, geared toward expanding the skillset of documentary filmmakers and editors. Prior knowledge of animation and motion graphics is not needed.
This class is 10 weeks long starting on Sept 4 and going until Nov. 6.
